Classical musicians are TRAINED to hide. To go into their practice rooms and keep the door closed until everything is perfect. We are trained to show up at auditions, doing the most ARTIFICIAL version of music making, striving for absolute pristine perfection, and hope to be selected. BEG to be chosen.

And we are told that we need to "pay our dues" and play freelance gigs for a while, and section gigs, and orchestra work that does NOT light us up, in hopes that someday we’ll be noticed doing these gigs and asked to play better gigs.
